Diversity and Inclusion update

Dec 14, 2020

In the spring, together, we confronted the hard reality of the racial inequity that exists in our society. At the time, the CMA announced our commitment to combatting racism and discrimination in the marketing profession. We pledged to take steps to ensure that our profession is treating all Canadians equally.

Since then, we have been working to understand why people from Black and Indigenous communities, and other marginalized groups, are not better represented in our profession, and to develop solutions to address this. We launched a Talent Council to guide us in implementing tools, resources and best practices on how marketers can reduce barriers and create safe, inclusive spaces for all. The Talent Council has been working hard to deliver on this mandate.

The foundation of any initiative is facts and data. I’m pleased to tell you that diversity and inclusion is a central topic in the CMA’s 2020 talent research survey. The survey findings will inform programming and talent initiatives designed to create an environment that is fair, respectful, and supportive of all stakeholders.

The survey also examines the relevance of professional development for marketing employees and managers, to ensure that the Chartered Marketer designation is effectively serving the Canadian marketing community.

We are pleased that Ad Standards and nabs are partnering with us on this initiative.

Stay well,

John Wiltshire
President and CEO
