Here’s to a terrific 2023

Jan 11, 2023

Hello,

I hope the new year is off to a great start and you’re headed for much success in the months ahead.

January marks my second month with the CMA and I’m deeply in the “drinking from the firehose” phase. I've had the pleasure of meeting many members – including each Board member – and our staff. I've attended more than 10 Council and Committee meetings, and hosted CMAmeasurement and CMAideas, which gave me a chance to engage with more members.

A consistent theme from my conversations is the high calibre of our membership and a strong appreciation for how the Association enables us to come together to learn, engage and discuss the hot topics and evolving dynamics that our profession is managing.

We look forward to creating more of these opportunities in the months ahead. On that note, I will host a CMA Café for senior members on Thursday February 9th (1-2pm ET). This discussion will focus on major consumer and business trends that will impact marketing in 2023. It will be a collaborative discussion instead of a presentation. We’re limiting the group to 12 so everyone has a chance to participate. I hope you can join us. It’s virtual and part of your membership.

In partnership with our talented Council members, the Association continues to develop terrific thought leadership to help marketers keep pace with the constantly evolving marketplace. You can read our latest here. We also completed the Digital Marketing Pulse research, which provided insights into how marketers and agencies are embracing digital.

The CMA continues to advocate for the marketing profession to ensure favourable outcomes to Canada’s proposed federal privacy bill, Bill C-27’s Consumer Privacy Protection Act (CPPA) and proposed changes to the Competition Act. You can learn what Bill C-27 means for marketers by checking out highlights from our recent CMAprivacy event.

The passion for our profession and the important role of the CMA is evident from all my conversations I’m looking forward to building on – and expanding – CMA’s strengths in the months ahead.

Let me know if you’re open to sharing your thoughts on the CMA in the coming weeks. I welcome the conversation.

Warm regards,

Alison Simpson
President & CEO
